La canna fissa serve a insidiare soprattutto pesci di piccola o media taglia. La sua applicazione ideale è nelle competizioni, quando occorre catturare molte prede il più rapidamente possibile. Il suo pregio sta tutto nella presentazione dell'esca, che puo' essere effettuata con precisione e delicatezza notevoli. Si puo' ad esempio collocare l'esca sotto il fogliame della sponda opposta di un canale.  Poichè il tratto di lenza in acqua tra il galleggiante e il cimino è molto breve, le insidie del vento e della deriva risultano assai ridimensionate e l'amo innescato si mantiene sempre in stretta vicinanza della pastura. L'attrezzatura puo' essere molto leggera e, grazie al controllo ravvicinato, è sufficiente ricorrere a un puntale whisker piombato per avvertire il piu' debole contatto con un piccolo pesce. Esistono tre tipi di canne fisse: con raccordi a baionetta, con raccordi inversi e telescopiche. I raccordi di tipo inverso, nei quali il segmento superiore è piu' sottile è internamente cavo e viene innestato sulla parte terminale del segmento inferiore, sono i migliori, perchè la canna assume un profilo lineare, rastremandosi progressivamente senza interruzioni nella linea. Nei raccordi a baionetta il segmento superiore si innesta all'interno, e non all'esterno, di quello inferiore. Uno svantaggio di questo tipo di canna è che è molto difficile smontare i segmenti dell'impugnatura quando la canna è sottoposta a flessione dal peso di un pesce di grosse dimensioni. Le canne telescopiche sono molto piu' corte delle altre due e raggiungono al massimo i 7 metri di lunghezza.

Acquistate il meglio che potete permettervi. Le canne a raccordi più economiche sono molto pesanti, troppo fragili o troppo poco elastiche e risultano pertanto difficili da usare e scarsamente efficienti. In linea generale quelle più rigide e leggere consentono un impiego più disinvolto. Prima dell'acquisto valutate quindi il tipo di pesca che intendete praticare. Il garista può scegliere una canna molto rigida e leggera, da maneggiare senza sforzo per l'intera durata della competizione, ma il dilettante che vuole pescare la carpa ha bisogno di maggiore flessibilità sul cimino. Lo stesso vale per chi intende pescare ogni tipo di pesce, ma in questo caso occorre una canna provvista di kit già pronto per la sostituzione dei segmenti terminali e dell'elastico. Il kit è costituito dai tre segmenti terminali già armati di un elastico ammortizzatore più robusto del consueto (vedi pagg. 104-105). Se pescate ad esempio dei piccoli abramidi con un elastico del 3 e nel frattempo sopraggiungono delle belle carpe, dovete montare un elastico più robusto, diciamo dell'8. Anziché disfare l'intera montatura, è molto più pratico sostituire il kit già pronto, munito dell'elastico più robusto. Per risparmiare minuti preziosi, i garisti hanno sempre a disposizione un buon numero di kit dotati di elastici diversi. Nella pesca con la canna fissa l'elastico ha la funzione di assorbire le tensioni causate dal movimento del pesce, dal momento che la mancanza del mulinello preclude la possibilità di cedere lenza. Con gli elastici più sottili, dell'1 o del 2, è sufficiente armare solo il cimino. Gli elastici dal 3 al 6 vanno invece inseriti preferibilmente all'interno dei due segmenti superiori della canna; gli elastici ancora più robusti, che impiegano per la cattura di grossi esemplari, vanno invece inseriti nei tre segmenti superiori.

La canna telescopica non consente la rimozione di segmenti durante l'azione di pesca. Per accorciarla bisogna far rientrare i segmenti inferiori ne superiori, e di conseguenza la sua lunghezza viene regolata stabilmente prima della battuta, senza poter essere modificata successivamente. La canna telescopica è caratterizzata da un cimino molto sottile, denominato flick tip, che non richiede l'uso di elastici. La lenza viene fissata a flick tip con l'ausilio di due tratti tubolare di silicone: si inserisce il primo tratto sul cimino lasciandovi all'interno il capo della lenza, poi si avvolge più volte la lenza intorno al cimino e su questo si fa scivolare il secondo tubolare, che emerge per metà dal cimino
